Summer 2019 Edition
Call for Candidate: WEBSITE CHAIR
2019 Convention Highlights

The purpose of AMTA Chapters are to hold meetings and conduct the business of the Chapter, provide professional and social networking opportunities; organize educational, legislative, public relations, and membership programs on the state and local levels; provide various means of communication such as publications; and support the activities and programs of the National Association for the benefit of its members.

AMTA-LA represents many hours per year in volunteerism from across our state. Our Board of Directors, Delegate for Assembly of Delegates, Committee Chairs and Committees are ALL VOLUNTEERS.

If you are not currently volunteering with us and want to learn the “Ins-and Outs” of what we do, we invite you to become an essential part of our very important mission. No matter your time constraints, no matter your location, we have a position for you.  We can always use extra volunteers for committees.

Message From the President

Hello Everyone,

I hope this newsletter finds everyone on the countdown to summer. To kick off summer AMTA style, Kathie Lea, Jennie Purvis and myself will be attending the National Planning Meeting June 5-8 in Evanston, IL.  I can’t wait to report back to everyone what we learn and our new planning for our upcoming summer/fall plans for the chapter.

Speaking of planning for our chapter, I want to hear from you, our members.  We are always looking for volunteers to get involved or let us know what is going on in your area that we as AMTA members can get involved in.  There are so many organizations to get involved with even if it is just a talk at a local town hall meeting or local VFW.  Education is the key to let our public know what massage therapy is about and its many benefits.

Volunteering can be a scary commitment,  I know, but the rewards are so great.  We the board, are always looking for extra hands to help.  At the moment, we are in need of a website person to be in charge of keeping our website up to date with the latest events. Our new Membership Chair, Tyechia Gayfield, will need help in a few weeks sending out save the date post cards for our next convention.

Yes, our 2020 State Convention is planned out and we are counting down to January 31,2020 though February 2, 2020, so mark your calendars!  We will be doing things differently as far as time schedule but other than that its going to be at the same place as the 2019 State Convention (The Embassy Suites, Baton Rouge).  James Waslaski will be our key note speaker and presenter (upper body).  More information coming soon.

If you would like to become a volunteer please go to our website at amta-la.com or email me at laamtapresident@gmail.com to find out ways we need you.  Awards are given out at convention as well who do you know that deserves to be recognized for their hard work with volunteering their time .

I look forward to hearing from you. Please email me with thoughts, ideas or questions at laamtapresident@gmail.com

Thank you for allowing me this wonderful opportunity to serve as your AMTA-La Chapter President.

Highlights from February 2019 State Convention

This years state convention in Baton Rouge was awesome!  Not only was our presenter, James Waslaski incredible, the entire convention experience was uplifting and inspiring!  I love the way it makes me feel after spending a few days with our chapter.  What a motivator!

James’s staff was terrific too. They were so knowledgeable and supportive as we learned new techniques.

And don’t forget Joyce’s dance moves at the social on Saturday night.

We had great vendors too!   I enjoyed the variety of products and getting to know all of them.

Our themed 80’s social was a hoot!  It was fun to see everyone dressed in that era… and the dancing and laughter will always be remembered!  It was fun spending time with old friends and new.

Our President, Dusty Sonnier, did a great job organizing it and keeping all of us on our toes with our own responsibilities!  I hope you enjoyed it as much as we did!

I can’t wait to 2020.  I Hope to see you there!

After a long day in class we all had a little fun at the vendor’s social.  Presenter, James Waslaski and his TA’s joined in the fun at the social with the rest of us.

2019 State Convention Vendors

I would just like to give a shout out to all of our awesome vendors from 2019!  We appreciate your time and support to the Louisiana chapter.

Moving forward to 2020 I am looking to add MORE vendors for next year’s convention.

If you have any suggestions or are interested in being a vendor, please contact me.
